A piece I did tonight whilst relaxing with a friend. Main idea was to create a neat simple illustration that would look nice reproduced. No real driving concept behind it, just wanted to use a man wearing a flat cap standing on a mountain on his way home, home being a warm place that you look forward to returning too. Did two versions, one is clean with a simple sky and sunset but the other has rain and clouds. Would look a lot better with some more work on the character but for the time being I'm satisfied.
Quickie/
Quick t-shirt idea for a competition, has to be relatively simple.
Probably wont get used but thought it was a nice approach.
Oh and the text reads "CLUNK"

Back&Forth - Packaging[Casual]/
Hey hay, another few images. First full mock up of one of the kits. The 'Serious' kit has been printed but it takes a while to cut everything out (mainly the rackets as they need to be cut out twice each on thick card and stuck together.) These are only rough shots to get an overall idea of how it could look as a finished and functioning item. Both packs will be mocked up fully tomorrow and a stint in the Allerton photo studio should ensure some nice clean shots.

Logos. Old and New/
First brief of the year to create a concept for a new flagship store opening in New York. The store had to have a british element driving the concept. My concept focused on British education and truancy.
THIS IS NEW

This takes me back, 2 year old freelance brief for a gourmet meat and wine specialist "Epicure."
THIS IS OLD

Back To The Old School/
Wanted to upload these bits for a while, would probably be better 'freshening' these up but can't see them as anything portfolio worthy. Nothing special at all however I like to look at them in terms of how I've developed as a designer. Some of this stuff is 1-2 years old. Good times.

Back&Forth update/
After a busy weekend in-front of the mac, I've managed to sort the packaging and make some amends to the website. Issues were raised as to the line width on certain pages, something that I'd previously overlooked.
Any-who, for the competition part of the site I asked a few friends to quickly bash some artwork on a ping pong ball as to use as a header image to act as an example.
Should be another update tomorrow once the new packaging is printed and cut, along with 4 new rackets and nets.

Back&forth Tee/
Another little part of my current brief. Competition runner up prize as part of the website is a back&forth tee. To add to the submitted content users will have the opportunity to design there own blades (rackets) and win prizes.

UPDATE : Website is now complete and has some proper content. After a trip into Manchester over the weekend I managed to get some great shots. However with the deadline approaching there is still a lot to do!

COMING SOON/
Another part of my latest promo project. Couple of rough visuals of the site. Users will be able to switch between Serious and Casual to suit there needs. At the moment sourced imagery has been used to simulate the layout however over the coming days each "mode" will take a shape of its own. Casual being free worded, user generated and showing recent uploads, where-as the latter will be more professional in the sense that it will feature news updates and sport updates etc.

Aesthetically the composition is tight and well considered due to the broad user groups and heavy content. Rather than trying to express madness through the design, I hope the shots I will gather will give it the mad, creative punch it needs.

COMING SOON/
A branding and awareness project of a self generated media promoter to make more people play ping pong. Forming part of the visuals for the pack that will be given out the logo type will be used.
Back and forth was chosen as it represents a visual metaphor for the game and also relates to the conversations or social interaction of which the website (to be constructed) is all about.

Ping Pong Draft Site (current.)
A current brief to encourage people of all ages to play more ping pong. Two reasons why not enough people don't play is due to the lack of time and the lack of equipment. I plan to solve both these issues by making a small ping pong set that is given out as a promotional item. Being very transportable the kit will hopefully make more people play in unusual places and practice when they have a spare moment.
The second part of my concept is to build a functioning site of which content can be added of the user playing ping pong in an unusual place or situation.
The site generated has moved off brief slightly as I can not directly use "Butterfly" (the company of whom manufactures ping pong components.) I have now solved this issue and am currently working on an entirely new design and generation a brand of which will promote extreme ping pong and hopefully inject some madness into peoples lifes.

Sherburn Aero Club
Nothing too out of the ordinary. A simple and clean site was generated for a local aero club. Built in flash the site utilized a few nice touches such as a movement tracker at the footer which follows the cursor (a work in progress,) along with fading pages.

Bahookie
Working alongside Gareth Hughes, visuals were created to raise awareness for new words appearing in the Oxford English Dictionary. Based on communication, the concept "spread the word" was generated. Heavily driven by the ambient media within, the audience would see a large black square on the ground near an advertisement, leading them on a trail to eventually find a new word. On successfully following the trail the viewer is awarded with the opportunity to visit the website and send off for a pack of free stickers, thus spreading the word in the own way.
Photography Book
A self directed photography brief for a university module. Based heavily on photography I wanted to produce an outcome which was mainly image. The idea for the project was to create an unusual yet creative picture book using photography. Originally my research was heavily drawn towards different photography methods and how I could make a scene look different to what it actually was. This then gave me the idea to craft my own scenes and what better way to do so than build them yourself.
The book is a story of a man called Jerry who becomes entangled in a murder story and witnesses someone being killed. In a bid to escape unnoticed he rushes home to find his wife and loved ones slaughtered. The story unwinds into a full bore massacre and no one escapes unscathed.
The scenes used were comprised of modeling materials from Hornby's model railway collection. The houses and factory buildings were all built from kits which were laying around in the attic and the characters were purchased from an online miniature railway store. As for the scenery etc, soil and other modeling materials were sourced to craft realistic bases for the models.

Virgin Trains
A quick illustration brief completed along side an on going photography brief. Digital illustrations were produced to promote train travel. Therefore using a contemporary 8 bit style aspects of train travel were promoted. The main aim of the work was to focus on the working potential during train travel. i.e being able to use your laptop, charge your phone etc.
Portfolio Site
Currently producing my portfolio website as part of a computing module. After the deadline the site will be hosted and will be available to browse. Reflecting my design work and process I have chosen a minimal style with a simplistic layout. I think its best
to let the work do the talking.
As the site is for a computing module, it needs to be built in flash. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Below are a few screens after piecing it together this evening.

A Day In My Life
One of my favorite projects to date. On going for a number of weeks, a set of illustrations have been produced. At present I have 5 briefs to complete by the end of this semester. Along with the two previous projects, this is one of them. Leaving me 2 more to complete.

This image making project is all about generating imagery relevant to a day in my life. From the beginning I struggled thinking off a day of which to illustrate, and whether to make one image or a series. After speaking with relatives I was made aware of a specific day when I slept walked in the middle of the night into the back garden apparently "looking for dinosaurs!" My tutor seemed to like the idea of somehow illustrating this and through research I began to come up with an illustrative concept. Three images were produced. One for the Morning, afternoon and night.
Originally the compositions were hand drawn, scanned and vectorised. With alot of time remaining to work on the brief I figured experimenting with different media would be a sensible direction to go in. After days of preperation a mesh screen was prepared to be printed. Each image was printed on an indivual sheet of card and in its own ink.
Anyway, recently I have mounted the images in preperation for hand in at the end of the year. Before doing this however I had to pick and choose the best of the bunch.

Experimental Type
Without having to worry about legibility, an experimental typeface was produced. With a constructivist influence the type is comprised off many small shapes which have all been "adjusted" to create the letterforms.
The word adjusted is one of which was chosen from the brief. The word had to be someway adapted into a typeface.
FevNet Rovers

A recent freelance brief for FevNet Rovers. A small community rugby league based in Featherstone. After speaking with the team manager Chris Taylor (a former class mate) a logo was produced. Using the teams navy blue colour scheme, the sleek and stylish design represents the clubs well ran and professional nature.
After many tweaks and alterations the design was signed off by the club and is now in use. Along with this, a business card and letterhead has also been produced.
